| A Star since 15!
Starting her career at fifteen, model, actress and 2009 twice IMTA award winner Sibylla Deen’s profession has been consistently flourishing for over the past ten years. Now working with her current agency Innovative, Deen has been dubbed the face of Forever New and just recently finished wrapping-up the movie Gin based in Detriot. Although Deen’s life is quite hectic with a variety of projects, she still makes time to helpfully utilize her time, now adding another trade to her list of occupations: teacher.
Besides engaging in her own modeling and acting career, Deen also works beside her long-time acting coach Joan Stephens, to personally co-teach the same Nijah / New Faces Development workshops that were the foundation for her success. Undergoing an extensive talent development training with Nijah / New Faces Development, Deen now has the opportunity to work on the other side of the camera and looks at success through a different lens. According to Deen, “Unless someone’s taught you
how to do it, you don’t know how to talk on camera. If you go to a casting without training you stand at a big disadvantage”.
Deen recognizes the level of importance when it comes to training first hand. In 2009 Deen was the recipient of Talent of the Year, as well as Fitness Model of the Year, for the International Modeling and Talent Association convention. With thousands of agents, managers and casting directors flooding the scene at IMTA, the chance of receiving a contract according to Deen comes down to “sheer numbers,” therefore one needs to ultimately stand out and shine. Deen simply admits that she owes the majority of her career success to the acting and modeling training which she received from Nijah / New Faces Development’s workshops. According to Deen, “Nijah / New Faces Development gets all their people so trained and so polished, they’re at their best at IMTA”. Now one year later ironically, Deen is the one prepping the up and coming talent to be in the same place that she was just only a year prior.
Adding teacher to her resume has definitely been a fulfilling experience for Deen. “I really love teaching,” says Deen. “I’ve worked for a long time and it’s so nice to be able to share what I’ve learned.” Deen views her career as being a life-long learning process. “I’ve been acting since I was ten years told and I still train. I think it’s invaluable. You can always be a better actress and model, you can always learn more”, says Deen.
